Each activity includes an alternate version for scaffolding the activity. The alternate version includes a short story with all the words used in the story. The story will guide the students in understanding how they can create their own version. This portion of the activity can also be used to help introduce this type of writing prompt to students.
There are two additional extension activities. These activities include a list of synonyms and antonyms of the words shown in the base exercise. Students will write a story substituting each of the base words with one of the synonyms or antonyms provided. Three synonyms and antonyms are provided for each word. Through the use of synonyms and antonyms, students will learn how the use of words affects the setting, plot, and characters.
